Buick

The arms used by Buick first appeared on the 1937
models (the one on the left is from 1937 and the one on the right from
1953). The arms listed for the Buick
name were found in an 1851 book of heraldry by Burke (Burke’s Peerage?) and
were appropriated for this use (thirty years after David Buick disassociated
himself from the company.) They are
“Gules a bend chequy, argent and azure detw.(?), a buck’s head erased in chief,
and a cross couped and pierced, or, in base.”

This was transformed into a series of shields with
the field transformed to a patriotic red, white and blue in 1959. This symbol is still being used today.
Finally, here is one additional heraldic image used
in a number of recent Buick models. It
appears to be the geometric outline of the Buick arms reversed.
A discussion of Buick heraldry can be
found in [Dunham].
