Jaguar Automotive Heraldry

1990 Jaguar hood ornamentThe Jaguar name started as a model name used for a new car produced by the Swallow Sidecar (SS) Company.  The SS name was dropped during the Second World War.  The Jaguar emblem, while very heraldic in design, apparently has no direct connection to any arms associated with a person or place.  The jaguar face, seen here as the hood ornament on an XJS, is the most common usage on their cars.
