Pontiac Automotive Heraldry

While Pontiac has used a number of different logo designs over the years (most famously a series of Indian heads) they have stuck with a wedge shape with a star in the middle in a vaguely heraldic layout.

The Pontiac Fiero of the mid-1980’s used this shield shaped badge.

But the most heraldic display that Pontiac ever used was the famous hood decal available as an extra cost item on the Firebird Trans Am. [Grayson] describes the origin of this design by John Schinella, but does not indicate if any actual heraldic models were used. If the original purpose of heraldic displays were to announce a combatant’s whereabouts on the field of battle, and throw in some intimidation while at it, it would be hard to find a better example than this.
